Return Carriers
Configuring Return Carriers for SSR
While carrier setup for outbound shipments is handled through the main ShipStation carrier settings, the configuration for return carriers used specifically for processing returns and exchanges is managed separately through the SSR configuration page.
Outbound Carrier Setup:
- All new carriers must be added through ShipStation settings.
- These carriers are used to generate original shipment labels.
Return Carrier Setup (SSR):
- Once a carrier is added in ShipStation, it becomes available in the SSR configuration portal.
- SSR will automatically include all existing carriers in the default configuration unless they are manually modified.
Managing Return Carrier Availability
- Merchants can enable or disable specific carriers for returns within the SSR configuration page.
- This means you can restrict the available return options that customers will see, even if those carriers exist for outbound shipping.
- For instance, a merchant might choose to use only one or two preferred carriers for returns, while keeping the full list active for outgoing shipments.
Important Notes
Adding New Carriers:
- To introduce a new carrier to be used for either shipping or returns, it must first be added through the ShipStation carrier settings interface.
- You can refer to ShipStation’s official help guide for this process- Link
Return Carrier Selection for Customers:
- Customers using the return portal will see only the carriers and services that are currently active and allowed for returns.
- Each return or exchange can use a different carrier and service, as configured by the merchant, depending on availability and policy.
