Return Package:
On the SSR configuration page, merchants have the ability to define how the system calculates the dimensions of return packages. These settings determine the length, width, and height of the packages customers use when sending items back to the warehouse. There are two configuration methods available:
Set a Default Package Size
- Merchants can define a default set of dimensions (length, width, and height) that will apply to all return shipments, regardless of the item being returned.
- This option is useful for businesses that use standardised packaging or when most return items are relatively similar in size.
- The default dimensions are applied automatically during return label generation unless otherwise specified.
Enable Dynamic Package Weight-Based Calculation
- With this setting, the system uses a configurable algorithm to estimate package dimensions based on the perceived weight of the return items.
- This algorithm is designed to approximate the most suitable box size for the return shipment.
- It allows for more accurate and cost-efficient shipping label generation, especially when returned products vary significantly in size and weight.
Choosing the Right Setting
- Use the default package size when you want to simplify returns and maintain consistency in packaging.
- Use the dynamic weight-based calculation if your returns often involve items of different sizes and you want to optimise packaging and shipping costs.
By configuring this setting, merchants can improve the accuracy of return label generation and ensure smoother processing once the returned package arrives at the warehouse.
Managing Return Package Configuration
During the return creation process, the system automatically suggests package dimensions and weights based on the items being returned. However, merchants retain full control over these values and can adjust them as needed.
Editing Dimensions and Weight
- The default package size is auto-filled based on item data (weight and known dimensions).
- Merchants can manually edit both the dimensions and weight during the return creation process.
- Any changes made here will directly affect the shipping label cost, so adjustments should be made carefully based on what the customer is expected to send back.
